Puerto la Cruz ( Spanish: Puerto la Cruz , “Port of the Holy Cross”) is a port city located on the Caribbean coast of Anzoátegui in Venezuela . One of the important and major cities in the east of Venezuela. The city has one of the largest oil refineries in the country.

History
The monument “Cross” ( Cruz ) on the boulevard Columbus ( Paseo Colón ) - a symbol of the city.
In 1780, the Christian mission Pozuelos was founded on the site of the city. On April 9, 1862, a group of 26 families from the island of Margarita moved to Pozuelos and founded a settlement, which they named Puerto de la Santa Cruz (Port of the Holy Cross). Over time, the name has shrunk to Puerto la Cruz.
The city is a popular tourist center with a developed hotel complex and beaches. Around the city is a reserve National Park Mochima .
