Zhidov, George Nikonorovich

Georgy Nikonorovich Zhidov ( February 20, 1916 , the village of Tolmachevka, now the Korablinsky district of the Ryazan region - April 11, 1974 , Moscow ) is the squadron commander of the 123rd fighter aviation regiment of the 7th fighter aviation corps of the Leningrad zone of the country's air defense forces , Hero of the Soviet Union .

Biography

Born in a Russian peasant family.

He graduated from 7 classes in the city of Kashira, Moscow Region, and the school of FZU at the Kashira Power Station . He worked at a power plant as a mechanic. He graduated from the flying club in Ryazan .

In the Red Army since March 4, 1936 .

In 1936 he graduated from the 3rd Orenburg Military Aviation School of Pilots named after K.E. Voroshilov. In 1939 he participated in the campaign of the Red Army in Western Belarus .

Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1941 .

The Great Patriotic War found Lieutenant Zhidov in the 123rd fighter aviation regiment in the region of Brest .

June 22, 1941 in the first battle, he shot down a He-111 bomber .

In the second flight, an enemy fighter shot down. He fought on the outskirts of Moscow . Then, as part of the regiment, he was transferred near Leningrad .

November 30 at the head of the link entered the battle with twelve Ju-88 and twelve Me-109 over Cape Osinovets . As a result, not a single bomb fell on the port.

The squadron commander of the 123rd Fighter Aviation Regiment (7th Fighter Aviation Corps, Air Defense Forces of the country), captain Georgy Zhidov, by June 1942, made 266 sorties to attack the airfields and enemy forces, personally shot down 8 in 40 air battles and in the group of 13 enemy airplanes.

In December 1942, a fearless pilot rammed a fascist bomber over the Ladoga Lake . Successfully landed on a damaged plane.

In 1944 he liberated the Baltic states . The war with Nazi Germany ended near Berlin .

In August 1945, the commander of the 401th Fighter Aviation Regiment (297th Fighter Aviation Division, Trans-Baikal Air Defense Army) Major Georgy Zhidov participated in the Soviet-Japanese war .

In total, during the war years, G. N. Zhidov made 366 sorties, in 70 air battles he personally destroyed 16 and in a group of 12 enemy aircraft [1] .

After the war, G. N. Zhidov continued to serve in the aviation of the Air Defense Forces of the country.

He graduated from the Red Banner Air Force Academy .

Since 1957, Colonel Zhidov is in stock. He lived in the hero city of Moscow. He died after a serious and prolonged illness. He was buried in Moscow at the Vvedensky cemetery.
