Engine and aggregates

The front-facing 6.0-liter V12 engine develops 477 hp. (350 kW) at 6000 rpm and 600 N * m of torque, and the maximum torque develops at 5000 rpm. Acceleration from 0-100 km / h - 5.3 s (0-60 mph - 5.1 s). The engine was designed and developed by engineers at Aston Martin in Gaidon , England, and is assembled by hand at the Cologne plant. The use of lightweight materials led to the fact that the weight of Rapide was only 190 kg more than its "donor brother" DBS, so that the weight of the vehicle in running order is 1950 kg. This was achieved through the use of the Aston Martin VH system (vertical-horizontal construction) - a technology in the space industry that uses bonding rather than aluminum welding.

Design

The project's chief designer was Marek Reichman. The authoritative automobile magazine Top Gear writes:

... the low set Rapide seems knocked down and muscular. And speed and power are felt even in statics.

Comfort

Different points of view were expressed regarding the comfort of this car, however, journalists from Top Gear magazine, having made a 2,400-kilometer journey to Valencia [3], came to the conclusion that

Rapide is a brilliant machine! He is the only one who fulfilled the promise of becoming a four-door four-seater sports car

Rapide S

At the end of January 2013, an updated version of the 4-door Aston Martin sedan, the Rapide S, was presented, featuring a more powerful engine and a modified radiator grill, overlays for the rear-view mirrors, and a spoiler that appeared on the trunk lid. [4] The Rapide S is equipped with the same V12 5.9 engine, only with increased to 558 hp. and 620 N * m power and maximum torque, as well as a new adaptive chassis . The maximum speed is 305 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h takes 4.9 s. Despite the increase in power, fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions, on the contrary, decreased. The price of the Rapide S in the UK starts at 150,000 pounds, and in Russia from 269,000 euros. Rapide S has replaced the basic Rapide in the lineup.

Rapide E

Electric Rapide E has rear-wheel drive: the wheels rotate two synchronous electric motors with a total output of 612 hp and 950 Nm. However, even as the most powerful gasoline variant, the AMR is weaker: 603 hp. and 630 Nm. There is no talk about the individual drive of each wheel: the motors work sequentially, and the limited slip differential is preserved in the transmission. The body structure of the original Rapid has undergone minimal changes, so the battery here is not located under the floor, like most modern electric vehicles, but is divided into several sections in carbon fiber and Kevlar cases, which are located on the ground of the V12 engine, gearbox and gas tank. The total battery capacity is only 65 kW ∙ h instead of 100 kW ∙ h for the current Tesla Model S (other versions are discontinued). The Aston electrical system operates with a high voltage (800 volts), which reduces the cross section and the mass of the power wiring. The expected mileage on a single charge is 322 km on the WLTP cycle. It takes a little more than an hour to fully charge an empty battery from a 50-kilowatt terminal with a voltage of 400 volts, and if you connect to the most powerful source (100 kW, 800 volts), it will take about 40 minutes to stand. But even with such a modest battery, the Rapide E turned out to be heavier than the gasoline counterpart: 2140 kg instead of 1990. The liftback has optimized aerodynamics: new flat-spoke wheels, a front fairing and a rear diffuser have reduced drag by 8%. The maximum speed of electro-Rapid is limited at around 250 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h takes 4.2 s. For comparison: the performance of the gasoline variant of the Rapide AMR is 330 km / h and 4.4 s. But the developers are proud of their elasticity: from 50 to 70 mph (80–113 km / h), the electric car accelerates in just a half seconds. They also promise that the Rapide E will be able to rush one lap of the Nurburgring in combat mode, while maintaining the performance of the electrical system. The liftback suspension was reconfigured: the developers tried to instill in him the character of the most evil version of AMR. The original plan called for the release of 400 electric five-doors a year, but these intentions are forgotten. The total circulation of the Rapide E model will be only 155 copies. Shipment of cars to customers will begin in the fourth quarter, and the price is not announced and will be individual. However, Rapide E is only the first electric swallow of Aston [5] .

Special Editions

The company Bertone from Italy in 2013 created in a single copy of the Aston Martin Rapide station wagon or shooting brake [6] . The car represents the 100th anniversary of the British manufacturer and the 60th anniversary of the collaboration of Aston Martin and Bertone.
