Content

History

Formed on December 15, 1948 as a result of the merger of the Polish Worker's Party (PPR) and the Polish Socialist Party [1] .

In July 1981, the IX (Extraordinary) Congress of the PUWP adopted resolutions on the elaboration of a new party program and “On the development of socialist democracy and strengthening the leading role of the PUWP in socialist construction and stabilizing socio-economic development in the country” [1] .

On June 29 - July 3, 1986, the X Congress of the PUWP was held, at which the Central Committee presented its report on the tasks of the party for the socialist development of the country, the report of the PNR Council of Ministers on the directions of the country's socioeconomic development in 1986-1990, the report on the activities of the PUWP Central Committee the party's program was adopted and amendments to the PUWP Charter were approved [1] .

In June 1986, the total number of the PUWP was 2 million 126 thousand members and candidate members of the party. The print editions of the party were the newspaper “Tribuna Luda”, the magazine “Nove Drogo” and the magazine “Ziche Party” [1] .

In the adopted programmatic documents of the PUWP, the model of people's democracy was rejected in state building. Entered into international cooperation with the CPSU .

Organizational Structure

The PUWP consisted of voivod organizations ( organizacje wojewódzkie ) in each of the voivodships, voivod organizations of district organizations ( organizacje powiatowe ) in each district, district organizations of primary party organizations ( podstawowe organizacje partyjne ) that could be production organizations ( zakładowe ), they could be production organizations ( zakładowe ). rural ( wiejskie ) in the villages, territorial ( terenowe ) in the cities and settled. Dissolution

After the parliamentary elections of 1989, the PUWP did not completely lose power, but it became obvious that it no longer possesses support and authority in society.

On January 27-30, 1990, the XI PUWP Congress was held, in which 1,639 delegates took part. At the congress, it was decided to dissolve the party [2] .

Successors

The Social Democratic Party of Poland Party, which took the ideals of Social Democracy, became the legal successor of the PUWP. April 15, 1999, transformed into the party Union of Democratic Left Forces .

In July 2002, the Communist Party of Poland was created.
