Neelidae

Small collembolas of a round body shape, variegated motley coloring. ^[one]

5 genera, about 30 species. Previously, the Neelidae family was singled out in a separate order of Neelipleona , which is now recognized as erroneous, they are considered apomorphic relatives of the Sminthuridae family and therefore it is included in the Sminthuroidea by many authors. ^[2] On the other hand, their inclusion in Entomobryomorpha , based on genetic analysis of 16S rRNA and 28S rRNA and the sequence of DNA sites, was associated with their ancient origin, which allowed other researchers to restore the Neelipleona group on this basis ^[3] .
