About the album
Further Down the Spiral became the most popular Nine Inch Nails remix album and on June 26, 1996 received gold certification for more than 500,000 copies sold in the United States alone [4] . Aphex Twin , JJ Turlwell , Rick Rubin , Dave Navarro and Coil participated in the remixing process.
Both editions of the album contain remixes of the songs “ Mr. Self Destruct ”,“ Piggy ”,“ Hurt ”,“ Eraser ”,“ The Downward Spiral ”,“ Heresy ”,“ Reptile ”, and“ Ruiner ”, as well as two original Aphex Twin songs and some additional songs.
“At the Heart of It All” and “The Beauty of Being Numb”
“At the Heart of It All” and “The Beauty of Being Numb” are not remixes, but rather standalone Aphex Twin tracks available on Further Down the Spiral . It is widely believed among fans of the group that the track “At the Heart of It All” is a tribute to Coil , as the composition is very similar to the English composition of the same name from their album Scatology [5] [6] . Later abridged versions of these two tracks appeared on the Aphex Twin 26 Mixes for Cash album [7] .
