Research
One of the areas of research activity is the collection, classification and arrangement of the national musical heritage of the Karaites. Following the results of field expeditionary work in Crimea, A. Kefeli compiled a collection of musical folklore of Crimean Karaites, including about 400 pages, including 180 units of notated songs, texts in Karaite and their translations into Russian, published in 2018 in Simferopol [9 ] [10] .
In 2002, he prepared the brochure Karaites. Explanatory pamphlet on the history of the Karaites of Crimea and the basics of the Karaite religion ”, on the pages of which he called for a return to the true concept of perceiving one’s own history, pointing to the inextricable connection of the Karaites with Israel and the Jewish people:
Return to your roots, to our religion! Do not look for karaism in the theories of the Turkic origin of karaites, which are the tactics of survival under fascism! And even during the years of fascist occupation of Crimea, services were conducted in Yevpatoriya in the ancient Hebrew language! And no one, even in this terrible time, thought to close the historical memorial inscriptions in the same language in the courtyard of the Evpatoria kenasses! <...> We understand that the years of Soviet power in Russia erased in the minds of Russian Karaites everything that our tradition has been accumulating for centuries. Nevertheless, out of deep respect for your ancestors, who have made an invaluable contribution both to karaismism and to Israeli philosophy, philology, history and culture in general, we want to help you, to help you return to your roots.
- Abraham Kefeli [5] .
Criticism
According to T. Shchegoleva, A. Kefely “<...> returns to the karaisma of the Firkovich style, believing that this scientist’s discovery was true and printed on the cover of his pamphlet the printmaking from the grave of Buki bin Yitzhak Kogen dated to Firkovich 6 A.D. e. " [5]
