Title
Previously, another name was used - Salnikh , in the Polish annals one can find Salints . [one]
History
In the 16th century, the small village of Salnitsa was located at this place, through which the “ Black Way ” passed - the path by which the Crimean and Budzhak Tatars usually made their attacks on Volyn . To protect against the Tatars in 1607, it was decided to build a city here, [1] whose residents received Magdeburg law [2] and were exempted from taxes for 20 years. [one]
In 1665 Salnitsa was heavily devastated by the Cossacks, after which she remained uninhabited for a long time. In 1776 there were only 60 houses in the city. [one]
At the end of the XIX century Salnitsa was a provincial city of Litinsky district, Podolsk province . Cheremisovka suburb adjoined the city. The population of the city was 3,701 people, mostly engaged in farming and farming, trade in the city was developed slightly. [one]
According to the census of 1897, Salnitsa's population was 3,699 people, the dominant nationalities were Little Russians (74.6%) and Jews (24.3%). [3]
The population of the 2001 census was 2497 people.
Coat of arms
In 1607, a coat of arms was presented to the city, depicting "... one bare hand, and the second covered with armor and a bow with a stretched arrow." [4] [5]
In 1864, B. Kene developed a draft of the new coat of arms of the city with the image of a ram's head with red eyes and tongue in a red field, as a sign that the inhabitants of this area were engaged in sheep farming. In the free part was the coat of arms of the Podolsk province. The shield was crowned with a red city crown with three turrets and framed with two golden spikelets entwined with the Alexander Ribbon. In the village, the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God of the Khmelnytsky Prosperity of the Vinnitsa Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church operates [8] .

Flor Yevstafyevich Stolyarchuk (1906—1944) - Soviet officer, tankman, Hero of the Soviet Union was born in Salnitsa.
