Biography

Born in Warsaw . In the 1970s and 1980s he was one of the leading Polish chess players. In 1970, he made his debut in the finals of a separate Polish championship. By 1992, he participated in the tournament finals twenty times, having won four times. Champion of Poland , twelve times included in the top three of the best chess players . He participated in nine national chess olympiads. He was a member of the Olympic team, which in 1978 - 1982 was among the top ten. The most successful was his performance at the Olympics in Lucerne in 1982 (54.2% compared to the first board, seventh in the team event ), in which he defeated Viktor Korchnoi . In total for the period of the Olympics 1972 - 1992 he played in 94 games - the balance is 33 -35 = 26 (48.9%).

Schnapik has participated in numerous international tournaments. He received the title of international master in 1977 after two successful performances at tournaments in Stockholm and Lublin . In 1979, he won the tournament by winning the International Cup of the Ministry of Communications in Warsaw, and at the end of this year the Cup of the tournament in Stockholm.

In 1998, he ended his career as an active chess player.
