Biography
Leonid Kharitonov was born in Leningrad . Mother worked as a doctor, father as an engineer. Younger brother Viktor Kharitonov .
After school, he entered the law faculty of Leningrad University . A year later, he decided to devote himself to an acting career, which he dreamed of since childhood. Enrolled in the School-Studio named after V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko at the Moscow Art Theater , which he graduated in 1954. In 1954 - 1962 and from 1968 - artist of the Moscow Art Theater named after M. Gorky , in 1962 - 1968 - Lenin Theater of the Komsomol and the Moscow Theater named after A. Pushkin .
The very first role in the movie in the film " School of Courage " brought fame to Leonid Kharitonov. He starred in it while still a student, in 1954. There was a firm rule in the Studio School: students acting in films were automatically expelled from this institution. Therefore, before filming the film, Kharitonov refused the proposal of the director Vladimir Basov . But an official letter from the Komsomol Central Committee came to the Studio School, and the leadership allowed the student Leonid Kharitonov to take part in the filming of The School of Courage.
A year later, the film “ Soldier Ivan Brovkin ” was released on the screens of the country, after which the young actor became the idol of the generation [2] . Over the course of several years, about ten paintings were released with Kharitonov in the title role. He created the image of a new social hero - kind, modest, charming and "slightly non-entertaining." Kharitonov’s characters were not only educated, but also amused, for which the actor was loved by spectators of all generations [2] .
With age, Kharitonov appeared on the screen less and less. In the episode of the film by Vladimir Menshov “ Moscow does not believe in tears, ” he played himself .
In recent years, Kharitonov was seriously ill. In the summer of 1980 suffered a first stroke. He starred in the episode of the film " Wizards " in the role of Amatin. July 4, 1983 followed by a second stroke. In the summer of 1987, the new art director of the Moscow Art Theater Oleg Efremov in a sharp form suggested that Kharitonov leave the theater, a rumor was spread about the actor’s supposedly mental illness.
June 20, 1987, the day the theater was divided into two parts, Kharitonov suffered a third stroke, and died on the same day. He was buried in Moscow, at the Vagankovsky cemetery (50th section). The tombstone with the inscription "Leonid Kharitonov" is a stone with a fracture in the form of the Moscow Art Theater gull, symbolizing the split of the Moscow Art Theater [2] .
