Apollodor ( ancient Greek Ἀπολλόδωρος ; about 180 BC. After 120 BC ) is an ancient Greek writer of the 2nd century AD . BC er grammar .

He studied grammar with Aristarchus of Samothrace and philosophy with Stoic Diogenes . In 146 BC. er he left (or escaped) from Alexandria to Pergam , and then settled in Athens.
Of the works of his most important:
- an essay about gods
- a commentary on the Homer's list of ships,
- commentary on comedians Epicharm and Sofron ,
- etymology
- and a chronicle written in iambic size, in which it follows the chronological system of Eratosthenes .
An important essay on mythology in 3 books, under the title " Library ", Most of which have reached us, is a retelling of the myths of the ancient world located on genealogical trees, beginning with the tales of the gods and to the tale of Odyssey 's misadventures: it was considered to be usually composed later from the more extensive work of Apollodorus, but more likely that an independent work of an unknown author who lived later (“ Pseudo-Apollodor ”), whereas only pieces of Apollodorus survived from the writings of Apollodorus. The publishers supplemented the three surviving books with Epithoma - an attempt to restore the contents of the unreserved books on individual fragments and other sources, set out in the author's style.
