Description
A family of small, up to 3 mm in length, black or bronze beetles. Mostly found among aquatic plants. Three-segment antennas . Maxillary palps elongated.
Paleontology
The oldest known member of the family is Cretohelophorus cupedoides , found in the early Cretaceous of Mongolia [1] .
Systematics
This family was previously considered as a subfamily, which is part of the water brood ( Hydraenidae ), but differences were found in the structure of the body.
