He graduated from the St. Petersburg Cadet Corps, Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy . He taught at the free Vasileostrovsky elementary school. Then he taught at military schools and teacher seminaries in Moscow. He published articles in the magazines Teacher, Reading for the Young, Education.

In 1869-1877, the editor of the magazine "Children's Reading", for which he wrote scientifically popular articles and works of art about nature, the world, animals.

In 1883-1910, the editor of the journal “ Pedagogical Compilation ”, in which he published his program works: “On the Question of Morality” (1887), “Justice in School Life” (1888), and others, A. N. Ostrogorsky compiled and published the “Pedagogical Collection ” anthology ”in order to acquaint the public with the ideas of the largest domestic educators. A. N. Ostrogorsky published materials prepared by KD Ushinsky for the third volume of KD Ushinsky’s fundamental work “Man as a subject of education. Pedagogical ideas and contribution to the development of domestic pedagogy

He believed that the professional education of a teacher is the business of the whole society. Highly put the role of morality in education. He believed that the school should develop a more clear and thorough self-esteem in students. I saw a close connection between pedagogy, psychology and fiction in raising children. He emphasized the advantages of mass education in preparing a person for an active full life in society. The didactic ideas of A. N. Ostrogorsky are aimed at the formation of abilities for logical thinking, the possession of attention and will, and the analysis of life facts. He propagandized the ideas of various educators and thinkers ( V. G. Belinsky , K. D. Ushinsky , V. Ya. Stoyunin , P. F. Kapterev , and especially N. I. Pirogov ). [2]
