General elections in Mozambique were held on October 28, 2009 . Following their results, the President of Mozambique , the unicameral Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique , as well as local authorities were elected.

Primary Candidates
The current president, Armandu Ghebuz , nominated by the ruling party, FRELIMO collected more than 70% of the vote.
The leader of the opposition movement RENAMO Afonso Dlakama received 16.8%.
The third place was taken by the mayor of the city of Beira, Davis Simango (son of Uria Simango ), a former member of RENAMO and the founder of the Mozambique Democratic Movement , collected about 8.6% [1]
Thus, Armandu Ghebuz was elected president of Mozambique.
Campaign
The election campaign began on September 13, 2009 . It was attended by 17 parties and 2 electoral blocs. [2]
