History

The village of Sokoliki was founded in 1556 by the Cracow governor Peter Kmita . In the tax registers of 1640 and 1655 there are references to the church. In 1791, a new wooden three-carved church of St. Dmitry was built, next to which in 1931 a new stone church was built. Thanks to the railway, the Sokolki became a local woodworking center. More than 200 people worked at the sawmill, and more than 100 people worked at the railway. In 1931, the population of Sokolikov was 1716 people. The village also developed as a summer vacation destination. In 1937 there were seven rest houses and the youth Carpathian House "Bayka". In June 1944, a fortified outpost of German border guards on the left bank of the San was attacked by 400 Azerbaijanis from the partisan formation of Sidor Kovpak , who had to overcome the mined territory for this. The village, whose population as of 1938 totaled 1,520 people, was evicted from 1945 to 1946 as part of an operation to clean the border strip. After the Second World War, the wooden church was destroyed, and an observation post of the border troops was set up in the stone church. Now in this church it is planned to open a museum of evicted villages.

Sokoliki railway station is still operating. From it to the territory of the former village a couple of kilometers.
