Charles, Tina (basketball player)

Tina Alexandria Charles ( born Tina Alexandria Charles ; born December 5, 1988 in Queens , New York , USA ) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the New York Liberty VNBA team. In 2009 and 2010, as part of the Connecticut Haskis team, she became the champion of the NCAA tournament . As part of the national team, the United States won the 2010 World Cup in the Czech Republic , the 2012 Olympic Games in London , the 2014 World Cup in Turkey , the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2018 World Cup in Spain .

School and College

Speaking for King High School's basketball team, in 2006, Tina Charles was recognized as the best U.S. basketball player for schoolgirls by USA Today , McDonald's , Parade Magazine, Gatorade , Women's Basketball Coaches Association and EA Sports . In the graduation class, Tina on average scored 26.5 points per game, made 14.8 rebounds and 5.2 block shots. With its help, the King’s school team won 57 games in a row, spent the 2006 season without a single defeat and came out on top in the ranking of the best school teams according to USA Today .

After leaving school in 2006, Charles entered the University of Connecticut . In 2009 and 2010, she was a leading player in the Haskis University basketball team, which won the US student championship twice without a single defeat in two seasons. In 2010, Charles received the prize of the best basketball player of the student season named Naismith and was awarded many other awards.

Tina chose psychology and criminal law as her specialization at the university. After the end of her basketball career, she plans to work in a correctional system. In 2010, she worked for six hours a week as an intern at the Bergin Correctional Institute, where prisoners are helping to adapt to life in society again [1] .

Professional career

On April 8, 2010, Charles was selected by the NBA Women's Draft under the first number by the Connecticut Sun Club [2] .

Team

In the fall of 2009, Tina was invited to the training camp of the US national team , which formed a team that will fight for victory at the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Summer Olympics . Tina was the only college student invited to the national team to participate in the international basketball tournament held in Yekaterinburg . At the tournament, Tina helped her team achieve victory, gaining more than 10 points in each of the three games.
