Divinity II: Ego Draconis - the third game, the events of which unfold in the game universe Divinity , and a direct continuation of the games Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity .
Content
Story
The plot of the game begins shortly after the events that the Beyond Divinity game is dedicated to. Thanks to his cunning plan, Damian ( The Damned, The Damned One ) finds a way to return to the game world, Rivellon ( English Rivellon ), in order to take revenge on his step -father, the Chosen ( English Lucian, The Divine One ), who imprisoned him in a trap between worlds.
During long and bloody wars (the Great War, the Battle of Ten Thousands), one of the comrades of the Order of the Flaming Knights betrays the Chosen One and stabs him in the back. Damian, seeing that his revenge was fulfilled and the goal has been achieved, retreats with his troops. In Rivellon comes the "ghostly" world.
But for people, the war is not over yet. The traitor who vilely killed the Chosen One was none other than the Flaming Knight ( English Dragon Knight ), a kind of personification of the ancient power of the Dragons in humans. Once invaluable and powerful helpers in the fight against the Damned, the Dragons and their Knights have turned into vile traitors to be destroyed. In the wake of this universal hatred, the Rivellon human race is creating the Dragon Slayers Order, designed to find and kill any dragon or Flaming Knight.
It is as a rookie of this Order that the main character begins the game.
Gameplay
Divinity 2. Ego Draconis is made entirely in 3D with a view from the 3rd person. Carrying out tasks received from the NPC , fighting monsters and exploring the world around him in search of adventure, the player moves towards the denouement of the game, while developing his character - improving his characteristics, gaining new skills for him. The player interacts with the game world through a character created by him, who has his own appearance and a set of characteristics and skills determined by the player.
The character created by the player in the game has three main characteristics: hit points, mana and experience, the values of which change after completing tasks and battles with monsters (experience), as well as when changing the character’s indicators (mana, hit points). There are five character indicators in the game: vitality, spirit, strength, dexterity and mind. Indicators affect the number of hit points (vitality), mana (spirit), damage done in battle, and the ability to fend off strikes (strength), the agility and speed of a character’s reaction (dexterity), as well as damage from spells and their resistance (mind) [ 1] .
Modifiers, special parameters that help him cope with dangerous situations, influence the character’s condition. Addition is a modifier that determines how quickly a character recovers from wounds, burns, poisoning and other lesions, as well as the consequences of turning from a person into a dragon and vice versa. The increased reaction modifier allows you to strike faster and evade them, and a high will indicator means that the character will better resist fear, curse and stunning [1] .
The classless skill system in the game Divinity 2. Ego Draconis is divided into two parts: human skills and dragon skills. Skills that are part of a person’s skills can only be applied in human form, and vice versa, turning into a dragon, a character is able to use only the skills and abilities of the dragon. Skills are divided into active, the use of which is possible one-time, and passive, which operate constantly regardless of the desire of the player [1] .
The combat system consists of two components: for man and for the dragon. Both operate with similar abilities and characteristics of the character, however, the battle process itself is different. Small ground targets and dungeons are in most cases inaccessible in the form of a dragon, and a person cannot reach air targets and fortifications [1] .
The game world is open, so the player is free to explore not only ground space, but also air space, turning into a dragon, while completing the tasks in any sequence.
The quest system , that is, the system for receiving and completing tasks, provides the player with the opportunity to develop a character at the same time as changing some parts of the plot of the game. The tasks in the game are divided into the main ones, during the course of which the main plot of the game is revealed, and additional ones that do not carry the plot load and were created for the player’s entertainment and character development. During the task, there are usually several solutions, and from the choice of a particular option the further chain of tasks changes and certain events occur in the game world. The denouement of some tasks may receive a sudden continuation (or a solution, depending on how it is performed.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack for the game was written by composer Kirill Pokrovsky , also known as a member of the groups Aria and Master .
On November 6, 2009, the soundtrack was released on CD in addition to the collector's edition of the game by Snowball Studios .

A great continuation of a great role-playing game. Fun and at the same time very serious, it sends us to decide the fate of millions in the world of Rivellon, where the decisive battle is coming between good and evil. The plot twists and turns, attention to detail and transformation into a dragon - this is only a fraction of the dignity of Divinity 2.

Larian Studios honestly rework their own concept of seven years ago, add fresh ideas to it (see Telepathy System), give players as many non-linear quests as they can carry out, and to finish off the most fastidious fans of the genre - they allow them to steer the dragon. In our opinion, for an excellent role-playing game - more than enough.
Game World Navigator, No. 10/2009 - rating 80%
Before us is a surprisingly pleasant RPG worthy of being in the game library of any connoisseur of the genre.

The plot in Divinity II develops slowly, and most of the time you will perform side quests - some are very interesting and unexpected. An interesting find is the opportunity to try yourself in the role of Dr. Frankenstein and create your own creature (by collecting it from pieces of bodies falling out of some enemies) - in battle it will become simply irreplaceable.

Interesting Facts
- According to the information voiced in the Story.pdf file, which comes with the English version of the game Divine Divinity and includes the background of the first part of the series, “The Damned” were called the highest servants-magicians of the Lord of Chaos. However, as it becomes known from the synopsis of events preceding the events of Beyond Divinity [10] , Damian is the Lord of Chaos himself, reborn due to the efforts of the Demon of lies, a part of the soul of the Lord himself, enclosed in the Blade of lies. Assigning the title of a servant to the master himself remains an incomprehensible moment of the sequel .
- Initially, the game planned a multiplayer mode (in the form of a cooperative game), however, due to the difficulty of adapting to the plot and gameplay of the game, it was deleted.
- The first stable version of the game (the German edition of DTP entertainment ) contained, in addition to German subtitles, subtitles in other languages: English, French, Italian and Spanish. A long delay in the English / American release of the game became the reason for the so-called “language hack”, which allowed replacing the subtitle language with any of the above lists, leaving only the original sounding of the German edition. This "desperate" step by the community did not escape the attention of developers. [eleven]
- Despite the fact that in the Divine Divinity game, the player could choose a male or female character who during the game became the Chosen of the Gods and give him any name, in Beyond Divinity and Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, the Chosen of the Gods is a man named Lucian. Moreover, in the materials of the Russian localization of Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, the name of this character is not used at all, it is called exclusively the Chosen or Chosen of the gods. Moreover, in the localized version of Divinity 2, Lucian’s real title is not used anywhere - the Divine ( English The Divine One ), which he was named after the initiation rite in Divine Divinity . This, as well as many other facts of localization are explained by the attempt of localizers to maintain the continuity and glossary of the game inside the localized editions of the games in the series. [12]
- With Divine Divinity, the second part is connected only by the background and some common characters and names; in all other respects, Divinity 2 is an independent project, which developers often focused on.
- In Divine Divinity, dragons besides wings had four legs, and in Divinity 2 only two. Such a metamorphosis is associated with the problem of animating the movements of the dragon player during game development.
- Compared to the original game, most races have disappeared from the game world: elves, gnomes, lizards, and orcs, but goblins have been added. In the game you can find explanations for the disappearance of some races.
- During the quest "Secret Shelter" on the main character will be attacked by 5 dragon hunters. Before the attack, the video will turn on, where each of them puts on his armor, becomes in a special combat stance and calls his name. This is a reference to the television series "Power Rangers" and the corporate stand of the main characters.
- During the beginning of the third stage, when the hero appears in Alerot, the music and the way of appearance itself creates a reference to the Terminator.
