Variant of multiple launch rocket system " Smerch ". At the MAKS-2007 Aviation and Space Salon, a prototype 9A52-4 combat vehicle was shown for the first time with a six-barrel package of guides as part of an artillery unit mounted on the basis of the KamAZ-63501 four-axle all-wheel drive chassis (and KamAZ-6350). The use of such a system allows dispersed calculations to conduct a coordinated fire. The main goal of the modernization is to increase the mobility of the complex by reducing weight and dimensions. It is assumed that this will expand export opportunities. A new version of a prototype combat vehicle, as well as a prototype of a transport-loading vehicle, were demonstrated in 2009 at the REA-2009 arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil (Sverdlovsk Region).

The Medved artillery tractor based on the KamAZ-63501 chassis is designed to transport 152 mm 2A65 Msta-B howitzers, 152 mm 2A36 Giatsint-B cannons, and other towed artillery guns and systems weighing up to 12 tons, with the placement and transportation of calculation and ammunition. It is equipped with a loading and unloading mechanism (crane IM-50) with a lifting capacity of up to 2 tons with a boom reach of 6.14 m ^{[2] [3] [4]} .

It is designed for transportation, except for the driver, another 7 people (in the cabin - 1, in the inhabited compartment - 6). The driver's cab, habitable compartment, batteries, fuel tanks and the bottom of the power unit are armored (5th protection class).

The inhabited compartment, a van type, with thermal insulation from the “sandwich panels”, is equipped with two armored hatches in the roof of the compartment, unified with the hatch of the car cabin, providing the possibility of emergency exit of personnel through them, as well as firing of personal weapons at air and ground targets, and two doors. The side walls are provided with two hermetically sealed loopholes on each side, with bulletproof glass above them. The tractor is equipped with an autonomous heating, ventilation and filtering installation. There are devices for attaching personal weapons, for a universal charger powered by the on-board network and two 24 V sockets. There is an intercom between the cabin and the inhabited compartment. Also, there are 4 folding sun loungers placed in 2 tiers, a table and two additional seats, there is a tank for drinking water with a capacity of at least 10 liters.

It was first introduced to the public in 2006 at the International exhibition of military products of the Ground Forces MVSV-2006 ("REA-2006"). The artillery tractor was adopted for supplying the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation by order of the head of the main armored directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation No. 665 dated October 1, 2009. To date, production has been mastered in series.
