History
Bragestad was founded in 1649 by Count Per Brahe the Younger , the Swedish Governor-General of Finland [2] and bore his name.
Initially, the city was wooden, and now its historical center is one of ten surviving ancient Finnish wooden cities. After the devastating fire of 1810, Bragestad was rebuilt according to a new master plan that reduced the risk of such fires.
Economy
The fifth largest international port of Finland, with its oil terminal, is also located in Raahe. It also houses one of Finland's largest steel mills, Rautaruukki, which has intensive business ties with the Russian Severstal .
