Career
He began to skate at the age of 5 years. He trained with Lilia Vanagene.
In 2001, he moved to the United States and moved to ice dancing. Since 2003, he played for Lithuania with the American Kayla Nicole Frey, with whom they were 19th at the 2005 World Junior Championships . Trained a pair of Elena Garanina and Valery Spiridonov .
In 2006, Deyvydas paired up with another American - Katherine Kopely . In 2008, they changed their mentors and came under the leadership of Igor Shpilband and Marina Zueva . The highest results of the duo are 10th place at the European Championships 2009 and 14th places at the World Championships 2008 and 2009 .
The result shown by the couple at the 2009 World Cup allowed them to obtain one license for Lithuania in ice dancing for the Olympic Games in Vancouver .
However, in November 2009, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite decided not to grant Lithuanian citizenship to Katherine Kopeli, as she is not sufficiently integrated into Lithuanian society [2] . Thus, the Kopeli – Stagnunas couple was not able to participate in the 2010 Olympic Games (since there was no other high-level dance duo in Lithuania, the license won was lost). Immediately after the news of the denial of citizenship, the couple withdrew from their second stage of the Grand Prix (they were 8 at the stage in Moscow ), and the President of the Lithuanian Figure Skating Federation Lilia Vanagene in January 2010 reported a serious injury to Kopeli [3] . Athletes did not participate in the 2010 European and World Championships , and then Katherine decided to end her amateur sports career.
Deividas tried to slip with the Russian figure skater Yana Khokhlova , whose partner, Sergei Novitsky , ended his career due to health problems, but a new pair did not work out [4] . From the 2010–2011 season, Deividas’s new partner was Isabella Tobias , who in the 2007–2008 season played for Georgia with Otar Japaridze [5] .
In December 2013, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite granted Isabella Tobias Lithuanian citizenship, so Deividas will be able to take part in the Olympic Games .
