167th Infantry Division (2nd formation)

The division was formed in the Sukhoi Log area of ​​the Sverdlovsk Region , from December 1941 as the 438th Infantry Division, on 01/07/1942 it was renamed the 167th Infantry Division. The backbone of the division was the party - Komsomol asset of Magnitogorsk . From there, in April 1942, it was dispatched to the west by echelons; it was completed and completed in Morshansk .

In the army during the Second World War from 07/02/1942 to 05/11/1945.

From Morshansk, the division made a march to Zadonsk , and from there to the south along the right bank of the Don , entering the task force of General Chibisov . On July 19, 1942, she arrived in Surikovo by march, on July 20, 1942 she was waiting for an enemy attack, on July 21, 1942 at 15:00 she went on the offensive, occupied Small Vereyka and the dominant height, suffered heavy losses. From 08.21.1942, it replaced parts of the 1st tank corps near the village of Bolshaya Vereyka north of Voronezh , where it defends before the start of the Voronezh-Kastornensky operation.

From 01/26/1943 breaks through the defense in the area of ​​the village of Terbuny (until 1954 it was the territory of the Kursk region ), advances in the general direction to Kastornoye , then Manturovo and further to Sumy , went to Stary Oskol , where from 01/02/1943 comes in the course Kharkiv operation, during which through the area south of Oboyan came to Sudzha .

From March to August 1943, the division was defensive under the city of Sumy , in the area of ​​the villages of Kiyanitsy, Pushkarevka, located on the southwestern part of the Kursk Bulge .

From 08/20/1943 goes on the offensive, breaks through the defense in the area of ​​the village of Velikaya Chernetchina ( Sumy region of Sumy region ), forces Psel , 09/02/1943 part of the forces involved in the liberation of the city of Sumy , 09/16/1943 frees Romny , 09/24/1943 forces Desna in the area of ​​the village Pukhovka ( Brovarsky district, Kiev region ).

On September 28, 1943, the division crossed the Dnieper in the Vyshgorod area, liberated the city, and formed a bridgehead, which, however, could not be held. Then the division was deployed to the north and, under continuous bombardment and bombing, 09/08/1943 crossed to Lyutezhsky bridgehead . In October 1943, waged heavy fighting to hold the bridgehead. From there, on November 3, 1943, he launched an attack on Kiev in the direction of Svyatoshino , breaks through the defense in the vicinity of the Pushcha-Voditsa village , cut the Kiev-Vasilkov- Fastov road, broke into the western and northern outskirts of the city on November 6, 1943, and fights in Kiev itself. Continued the offensive in a southwestern direction, in November 1943 it reflected the enemy’s heaviest counterattacks in the Fastov area.

In December 1943, it went on the offensive during the Zhytomyr-Berdichev offensive operation;

During the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky operation, it conducts battles with an enemy group, making its way to the troops encircled in the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky army, and was in one of the main areas of attack, while on January 13, 1944, the 465th Infantry Regiment conducted fierce battles for 15 days in the vicinity of the village of Tikhonovka, the remainder of the regiment were able to emerge as a result of the strike of the main forces of the division.

From 02/02/1944, it was transferred from the encirclement of German forces north-west of Kamenetz-Podolsky through Yablunov to the approaches to the cities of Druzhba and Buchach , where it fights until July 1944, from 23/23/1944 to 07/28/1944 it fights in the area of ​​the cities of Rogatin , Khodorov , 07/19/1944 conducts battles in the area of ​​the village of Glynn .

Then it went on the offensive during the Lviv-Sandomierz operation in the direction of the village of Ozeryany and the city of Zbor , forces the Dniester, fights on the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dniester on the 03.08.1944 in the area of ​​the village of Krupsko. 08/06/1944 participates in the liberation of the city of Drohobych

In September 1944, he fought heavily in the Carpathians , during the East Carpathian operation, forced San , 09/09/1944 he fought in the vicinity of the village of Struzha Velka, 09/09/1944 south of the city of Sanok , 09/14/1944 - for the village of Plonn, slowly moving through Carpathians to the southwest. In November 1944, continued the offensive in eastern Czechoslovakia. On 11/23/1944, it conducts battles in the Sobrance region (southwest of the city of Humenne , Czechoslovakia ), on 11/26/1944 near the town of Michalovce , on the same day takes part in the liberation of the city.

On January 14, 1945, it attacked during the Western Carpathian operation, on January 29, 1945 it liberated the city of Nowy Targ , west of Mount Kichera in the region of Paskov Polyana, in February 1945 the division was encircled, with losses for more than a week making its way to its troops .

Since 07/07/1945, participates in the Moravian-Ostrava operation, twice crosses the Oder River in different places: the first time on 04/20/1945, during the relocation north of the Moravian Ostrava, and the second, after the relocation and resumption of the offensive on Moravian Ostrava from the north-west from 04/25/1945 - 04/30/1945, after which she got involved in battles for the city of Moravsk Ostrava . After taking the city through Olomouc, the division proceeded to Prague .

Over 14 thousand division soldiers were awarded orders and medals, 108 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (including 98 for crossing the Dnieper and the assault on Kiev).

At the end of the war, the division was stationed in the city of Borshchev, Ternopil region.
