Received the degree of candidate of sciences in 1860 at the University of Koenigsberg for his work lat. "De mutua duorum fluidorum frictione . "
He held the post of assistant professor at the University of Göttingen from 1862 to 1864 , after receiving an assistant professor (for his work lat. "De gasorum theoria" ) in 1866 he received the position of professor at the University of Wroclaw , where he conducted research and taught until the end of his days.
He worked mainly in the theory of friction in liquids and gases , on direct current generators and mining magnetism in Silesia .
