Brattalid ( Old Scand. Brattahlíð , Eng. Brattahlid ) is the estate of Eric Ryzhe in the East Viking settlement in southwestern Greenland . Founded at the end of the 10th century ; Currently, this place is the village of Kassiarsuk . The estate was located at the end of a large fjord , 96 km (60 miles) from the ocean, which protected it from storms. The descendants of Eric lived here until the XV century . The name "Brattalid" means "steep slope" [1] .

At the site of the main church, built after the conversion of local Scandinavians to Christianity, the researchers found molten metal fragments of bells and foundation stones of this church and other buildings, preserved until the 20th century, like the remains of the (supposedly) forge. The church had a size of 12.5 by 4.5 m, and it had two entrances, apparently with a hearth in the middle. A church, possibly built in the 14th century , may stand on the ruins of an earlier church, founded by the wife of Erik Ryzhe Thodhild. There are grave stones in the churchyard, and a cross is engraved in one of them. On the other are carved runes meaning "Ingibjørg's Grave". Now the stones clearly mark the boundaries of the church, although they were probably placed recently. Visitors can also see the surrounding cemetery.
