The son of a roommaker Danila Tatishchev , father of the freemason Peter Tatishchev , cousin of the diplomat D.P. Tatishchev . He served as an orderly with Peter I. Catherine I in March 1725 brought Tatishchev into gof junkers , and on November 26, 1726 - into junk chamber . Under Peter II , when the Dolgorukovs were in power, Tatishchev fell into disgrace and was removed from the yard.

Under Anna Ivanovna , his previous rank was returned to him; in 1737 he was granted the rank of chamberlain. Member of the Russian-Turkish war of 1735-1739. He initiated the construction of the Ice House in the winter of 1740 and the arrangement in it of the wedding of the jester-prince Golitsyn and the court Kalmyk Buzheninova. The device of the holiday was controlled by A.P. Volynsky , Tatishchev was in charge of the performance of the undertaking. He also thought of arranging a kind of ethnographic exhibition on the occasion of this holiday: from all over Russia they demanded to send to the capital “three and two pairs of men and women in half” foreigners: Votyaks, Kalmyks, Tatars, Ostyaks, Samoyeds, Cheremis and others, “Not very vile oneself,” in national costumes with weapons and musical instruments.

On May 24, 1742 , under Elizaveta Petrovna, Tatishev was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed general-chief of police (with the simultaneous transfer of this post from fifth to third grade “Table of Ranks” ). In this post, which he held until his death, A.D. Tatishchev achieved complete independence - since 1746, the police general began to report directly to the empress, and all possible assistance should be provided to his requirements. On August 30 (September 10), 1757 , Tatishchev was promoted to general-anshefa .

Alexei Danilovich was married to Nastasya-Maria Nefedyevna Kudryavtseva (1708-17.03.1737), the daughter of Kazan vice-governor N. N. Kudryavtsev , who was killed by Pugachev .
