Play career

He began his career at Washington United, before playing for Barnsley , where he played until about 1910 . He played in both finals of the FA Cup , where he participated in the Barnsley, achieved in 1910 and 1912 .

In March 1913 he moved to Bolton , for which he played 83 games as a captain. In 1915, Bolton reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where it was defeated by Sheffield United . After the war, he played for Accrington Stanley .

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, he decided to follow the example of his compatriots and begin his coaching career in the Netherlands . The debut was more than successful - the Swiss were defeated 1: 4. But immediately after the match, he was invited to work at the oldest club in Holland, the HFK . In 1925, he returned to the Dutch national team, while not leaving the HFC, already for a long time, for as much as 15 years. He worked in two positions until the 1928 Summer Olympics , when he wanted to focus on the national team. Under the leadership of the Englishman, the Dutch won 36 matches and lost 36 matches. Under Glendenning, the Dutch made their way into the final of the World Championships twice, but both times flew out after the first meeting. At the 1934 World Cup , the Netherlands team had only one match at the San Siro against the Swiss - 2: 3. At the next world forum, the Dutch lost to Czechoslovakia 0: 3.

After the World Cup, Bob Glendenning worked with the Dutch for another two years. He not only managed to lose to Luxembourg, but finally found a star player for the team around which the new Dutch national team was to be built - young frieze Abe Lenstra . But the implementation of the plans of the Englishman prevented the Second World War . Holland was occupied by Nazi Germany . Glendenning was luckier than fellow countryman Jack Reynolds , who was sent to a concentration camp - he managed to get home. But the shock was so great that Bob Glendenning died six months later at the age of 52. He is buried in Bolton , where the Football Federation of the Netherlands supports his tombstone.
