The village of the same name Volokonovka with the status of urban settlement forms the only settlement in its composition [3] .

Geography
It is located on the left bank of the Oskol River ( Don basin), 30 km south of Novy Oskol .
History
The village was founded in 1731. It is believed that Prince G. G. Volkonsky at the site of an already existing settlement created a full-fledged settlement.
According to the census of 1877, there were 6,240 inhabitants in the Volokonovka settlement [4] .
The status of an urban-type settlement since 1961 .
On June 25, 2011 in Volokonovka, Belgorod Region, the unveiling of a monument to Grigory Grigoryevich Volkonsky took place [5] .
