In the USA, the magazine is published 12 times a year. American Express Publishing also publishes Executive Travel , Food & Wine (founded in 1978 , specializing in recipes), Travel + Leisure Golf (for golf enthusiasts, closed in early 2009 ), Travel + Leisure Family and Departures (addressed to US residents , holders of American Express platinum cards and cards of the so-called “black series” of the same company - Centurion Card ). For several decades, the American publication has been led by journalist Nancy Novogrod, well-known in the travel industry.

Initially, the New York magazine was launched in 1937 under the name US Camera and Travel . In 1968 was acquired by American Express. In the period 1969-1971 it appeared under the name Travel & Camera and in 1971 it was renamed Travel + Leisure ^{[6] [7]} , which marked the shift of emphasis from the photo series to utilitarian information for tourist tourists.

Since August 1995, the magazine publishes its own rating of airlines, car rental companies, hotels and resorts of the World's Best Awards (the rating is formed by readers' polls) ^{[8] [9] [10]} .

In addition to Russia, the magazine was published / is being published in a number of other regions ^{[11] [12]} :

The main competitor in the international arena is Conde Nast Traveler magazine .

To obtain the right from the American licensor to publish one of the world's most circulating monthly monthly publications, SK Press implemented its own project in 2002 - Fly & Drive magazine, the quality of which was recognized by overseas partners as meeting the standard of an elite travel magazine.

The magazine published essays on the travels of writers and publicists who have a brilliant literary reputation. Their author’s vision allowed readers to take a fresh look at those places that, it would seem, have already been studied, to get unique impressions of exotic routes and the most interesting types of travel ^[23] .

Later, thanks to the successful experience of Fly & Drive , the publisher received licenses for a number of American consumer magazines ( Seventeen and In Style ).

In Russia Travel + Leisure has been published (under the name Travel + Leisure / Russian Edition) since September 2003 with a circulation of 50,000 copies. ^[24] and was distributed primarily through the subscription and base of American Express cardholders.

The American magazine received Society of Publication Designers awards ten times between 1993 and 2005 ^[25] .

To a large extent was a kind of monthly guide for tourists.

The main feature of this publication (as well as the Russian analogue of Fly & Drive ): on its pages socially significant characters shared their impressions just like travelers. The Russian editorial staff involved well-known authors and famous photographers (Vladimir Klavikho, Alexander Tyagny-Ryadno , etc.), who shared their travel experiences in detail, to work on the issues. Film critic Kirill Razlogov , publisher Vladimir Grigoriev, banker Pyotr Aven , singer Alexander Gradsky , journalist Dmitry Bykov, actor Maxim Sukhanov - all of them regularly published reports on their trips outside the context of their professional activities.

It was on this that in its time the concept of the American publication was built: celebrities as tourists.

The 2005 concept was developed by Marina Lesko, editor-in-chief. The materials of the Russian analogue of Fly & Drive were noticeable, as evidenced by the fact that they were regularly published (as reprints) in other publications ^{[26] [27] [28]} . However, publishing experience has shown that it is pointless to produce two competing products within a single publishing house. And in early 2006, the publisher of the magazine, Evgeny Yu. Dodolev, decided to reorganize the monthly Fly & Drive , despite the quality of this media product. Travel + Leisure was closed in 2007 ^{[29] [30] [31]} . Experts commented on the closure of the magazine ^[29] :

The fact is that in the Russian Federation the market for private tourist trips is still underdeveloped: people prefer to travel to Turkey or Europe, but with a guide. Therefore, there is no need for a large number of tourism magazines.
