Biography

Born in Ryazan, baptized on March 5 in the St. Nicholas Church of Ryazan [1] . Entered the service on June 16, 1873. I passed the officer exam in 1875. On February 14, 1875, the cornet of the Life Guard Equestrian Regiment . He participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 . He commanded the convoy of Prince Alexander of Bulgaria (Battenberg) . He graduated from the officer cavalry school . Since 1901, the adjutant .

On December 6, 1902, he was promoted to major general with the appointment of His Imperial Majesty to the retinue [2] .

In 1900–1916 he was in office (he accepted the position in March 1900 from K. N. Rydzewski ) head of the office of the Ministry of the Imperial Court , was in the close circle of Emperor Nicholas II (his immediate superior was the minister of the Imperial Court, Baron (later Earl ) V. B. Fredericks ). He was in charge of court censorship (department of the Ministry of the Court's Office) [3] , that is, he carried out a preliminary censorship of materials in which persons of the imperial family were mentioned.

From December 1908 - Lieutenant General.

At the end of 1916 he was appointed minister-envoy to Romania .

He fought against the Bolsheviks in the South of Russia; In emigration he lived in France , since 1933 - in Bulgaria. He was one of the organizers of the All-Russian Monarchist Congress in Reichengalla ( Bavaria ) in May 1921; Member of the leadership of the Union of United Monarchists, in 1931 headed the group in Antibes .

The author has repeatedly reprinted memoirs "At the Emperor's Court" [4] , which were published since 1934 in Russian émigré periodicals, in particular in the Riga magazine For Vas [5] under the name "At the Court of the Last Russian Emperor". An English-language edition of the book entitled At the Court of the Last Tsar [6] was also published, the content of which is somewhat different from the Russian version.

He was married to the sister of General D. F. Trepov [7] [8] , Elizabeth Feodorovna Trepova (1858-1920). Children: Irina (2.4.1886 —?), Natalya (10/07/1887 —?), Alexander (10.10.1889-1915), Maria (4.10.1891 —?), Dmitry (12.17.1892 —?).
