The Arctic Umiaq Line , also known as Arctic Umiaq and AUL, is a shipping company for passengers and freight in Greenland . It was founded in 1774 under the name Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel . The company owns one vessel that sail from Ilulissat to Narsak along the west and southwest coast of Greenland. The name of the company is the Greenlandic word for umiak , the traditional Inuit boat. The shipping services provided by Arctic Umiaq Line are vital to all of western Greenland.
The company owns the M / S Sarfaq Ittuk, which was built in 1992 and modernized in 2000. The ship M / S “Sarpik Ittuk”, sailing between Disco Bay and Wummannac , was sold to the Bahamian company Nova Cruising in 2006.
