Govortsova in tennis since the age of six. On the court, Olga prefers to act behind the back line; the best hit is the backhand, your favorite cover is the ground [3] .

Sports career

For the first time she took part in a professional tennis tournament at the age of 14 (in Minsk , the tournament of the International Tennis Federation ITF ). In the same year, she won the prestigious Orange Bowl junior tennis trophy in the under 14 years old. A year later, in Ramat Hasharon ( Israel ), she won her first ITF tournament paired with Victoria Azarenka and first reached the final in singles. The following year, he and Azarenka won the Wimbledon doubles tournament among girls.

She won her first ITF singles tournament in 2007 in Minsk. The 2007 season ended among the 50 strongest tennis players in the world of single classification.

Govortsova held the first final of the WTA tournament in 2008 in Memphis (the 18th racket of the world Shahar Peer won in the semifinal, and Lindsay Davenport lost in the final). A month later, she and Edina Gallowitz from Romania advanced to Charleston, South Carolina, in her first doubles WTA tournament finals. Without being seeded, they won the third pair of the tournament, Quet Pawn and Renne Stubbs , in the quarterfinal, and the strongest pair of the world, Karu Black and Liesel Huber , in the semifinals before losing to the second-seeded ones, Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama . A month later, Govortsova won her first WTA tournament in Istanbul , paired with Jill Craibas ( USA ). In June, it reached the top 35th position in the ranking for itself at the moment. At the Beijing Olympics, she lost in the first round, seeded to fourth number Serena Williams . In the doubles with Daria Kustova they went into the second round, where they lost to the Ukrainians Alyona and Katerina Bondarenko . After that, Govortsova rose to the highest position for herself in the ranking and in the doubles category.

In September 2009, Govortsova added two wins in the WTA tournaments in doubles to her collection of titles, in Guangzhou and Tashkent , won over two weeks. In her last tournament of the season, the Kremlin Cup (since 2009 the Premier Tournament), she reached the singles final, where she lost to Italian Francesca Schiavone .

In the following seasons, Govortsova completed the year four times among the hundred best tennis players in the world in singles, although she only reached the final two times at the WTA tournaments (in 2010 in Ponte Vedra Beach and in 2013 in Tashkent). Her best result in singles Grand Slam tournaments is reaching the 4th round at Wimbledon in 2015; Govortsova, who had taken the 122nd place in the ranking by that time, had gone out of the main draw from qualification and consecutively defeated three rivals from the first hundred, including the 25th seeded Alize Cornet . At ITF tournaments, by 2017, she brought the number of her victories to seven.

On the contrary, in pairs Govortsova won five more titles at WTA tournaments, three of them in 2011 (a total of eight), and lost five more times in the finals. Her most significant victory was won at the 2010 Chinese Open - Premier Mandatory Tournament, where she won the title together with the hostess of the court Zhuang Jiaong . In the course of 2011, Govortsova rose to 24th position in the ranking of tennis players in doubles - the highest in her career. In the same year, she helped the Belarusian team to break into the II World Group of the Federation Cup after six victories in six meetings with rivals from Austria, Croatia , Greece, Poland and Estonia , but the next year the Belarusian team was unable to hold its ground, losing to the Americans first, and then the Swiss national team . In 2015, Govortsova won with Azarenka the decisive pair match in the playoffs of World Group II with the Japanese team , again ensuring the Belarusian team appeared in the world elite next season [4] . In 2016, Govortsova, having lost both of her singles matches in the match with the Canadian national team , managed to win the decisive match of the match together with Alexandra Sasnovich (Sasnovich also won both of her singles) and put the Belarusian team in the playoffs of World Group I [ 5] . There, in April 2016, Belarusian tennis players won an early victory over the Russian team (Victoria Azarenko won two of their matches) and reached the top division of the Federation Cup before the doubles match, where Govortsova and Arina Sobolenko lost to Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina . In 2017, Govortsova with the national team of Belarus became a finalist of the Federation Cup, winning and losing one meeting in pairs, in both cases, however, that did not solve anything [6] . Govortsova did not get into the national team in the final match against the US team - her place in a pair with Lapko was taken by Lidia Morozova [7] .
