On the outskirts of Trebenishte is an ancient necropolis with 56 burial sites dating back to the 7th – 4th centuries BC. The first excavations were carried out here by the Bulgarian archaeologist Karel Shkorpil . Then the excavations continued in 1930-1934 ( Bogdan Filov ), 1953-1954 and in 1972. Among other finds, 4 gold funeral masks, a large number of household items, weapons, and tools were found. The historical values found in Trebenisht are stored in museums in Sofia , Belgrade , and Skopje . Scientists find similarities between objects of culture discovered in the Trebenishtansky burial ground and items of the Mycenaean era found in the tombs of Greek bronze-age mines.
