Parliamentary elections in the UK in 1970 - democratic elections, held June 18, 1970 . In the elections, the Conservatives led by Edward Heath won the Labor Party under the leadership of current Prime Minister Harold Wilson . Laborites could not solve the problems of stagnation of the British economy, which affected the election results.
Significant success was achieved by national parties. More than twice as many votes were cast for the Scottish National Party and the Party of Wales than in previous elections. The Scottish National Party for the first time managed to hold its deputy to the House of Commons. He was Donald Stewart from the District of the Western Isles . Two places received Northern Irish party "Unity". One deputy was also elected from the Protestant Unionist Party and from independent Laborists, while the Republican Labor Party retained the sole mandate of its representative in the House of Commons.
