The order includes 2 (or 3) families: hoopoe (Upupidae) and wood hoopoe (Phoeniculidae) [2] .
Isolated from the crayfish (Coraciiformes) order. According to the International Union of Ornithologists , as of August 2016, both families are included in the order of rhinoceros birds (Bucerotiformes) [3] .
