Savissivik ( grenl . Savigsivik , pol. - esc . Havighivik ) is a settlement in the Tula region of the Kaasuitsup municipality in northern Greenland . The population (January 2005 ) is 78 people. It is located on the north shore of Melville Bay . In Greenland, the name “Savissivik” means “Place of an iron meteorite” (Savik - “iron, knife”), which indicates numerous meteorites, some weighing up to 20 tons, that were found in this area.
