Ferruzion Besancon ( Latin Ferrutio , French Ferjeux ; executed June 10, 212 ) - a saint , venerated by the Roman Catholic Church (memorial day - June 16 ; in the archdiocese of Besançon also May 30 ), a priest, enlightener Besançon . Saint Ferruzion was the founder of the Christian community of Besançon, the first enlightener of the Franche-Comté region, along with his brother, deacon , Saint Ferreol Besançon (evidence of his martyrdom is known in Saint Fargeau ).

Biography
At the end of the 2nd century, St. Irenaeus , Bishop of Lyon , a disciple of St. Polycarp , Bishop of Smyrna , sent two clergymen from Athens , Saints Ferruzion and Ferreol, with a Gospel sermon in Vesontius ( Vesontio , the Latin name of Besancon) to enlighten the Sequans who lived in Rome in Gaul . Future holy martyrs settled in a cave near the village, which later became known as Saint-Fergeux and now is one of the quarters of the city of Besancon. From this cave they began their sermon. Saints Ferreol and Ferruzion were martyred on June 10, 212 or 215. They cut off their heads on the orders of the Roman prefect of the province of Lugdun Galia, Claudius, who saw in their sermon an outrage of public calm.
Honor
About 370, according to legend, the holy relics of the martyrs were acquired by a military tribune , whose dog climbed into the cave during a fox hunt. The relics were placed in Cancer by Anianus, Bishop of Besancon in the 4th century . St. Gregory of Tours reports that many miracles were revealed at the holy relics. He reports that his son-in-law was healed of a dangerous disease through the prayers of the saints. In the Gothic Missal ( Missale Gothicum ) (c. 700 ) there is a full service in their honor. In the 16th century, during illnesses, the inhabitants of Besançon turned to the saints, as well as to St. Sebastian and St. Roch , with a request to protect their city from this disaster [1] .
Ferreol is mentioned in the 17th century list as Bishop of Besancon, but Ferreola was always mentioned only as a priest in the liturgy , and Ferruzion as a deacon [2] . Ferreol and Ferruzion, as the patrons of Besançon, according to legend, appeared on the city walls in difficult minutes for the city [2] These two saints are presented in stained glass , images, and also in the form of statues in many churches and chapels of two dioceses in Franche-Comté : in the diocese Saint-Claude and Dioceses of Besancon . [2] .
They are also depicted on French lanterns around 1900 [3] . The first church of St. Ferruzion was built around 550 on top of a cave. Between 1890 and 1900, a basilica was built on the site of this temple, in the crypt of which this cave is located.
Saints Ferreola and Ferruzion are venerated by the heavenly patrons of Besancon.
