Flag of Iowa ( English Flag of Iowa ) - one of the symbols of the American state of Iowa . The flag is based on the flag of France , since Iowa was part of Louisiana's French possession in New France . Due to the wider middle stripe, the flag is classified as “ Canadian Pole ”.

The flag of Iowa consists of three vertical stripes - blue, white and red. On a white strip is a bald eagle holding a long ribbon in its beak with the motto of the English. Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain , taken from the state press. Below is the name of the state "Iowa", executed in serif font red.
The flag was adopted in 1921, after prior approval by the Iowa State Defense Council in May 1917. It was developed in 1917 by Knoxville resident Dixie Cornell Gebhardt.
