Herjedalen ( Swede. Härjedalen ) - a historical province in the central part of Sweden , in the historical region of Norland . It borders with Norway , as well as with the provinces of Dalarna , Helsingland , Medelpad and Jämtland . The province mainly belongs to the modern municipality of the same name, Lena Jämtland , however, small plots belong to the Lena Dalarna . The largest settlement and (unofficial) center of the province is Sveg .

The name "Herjedalen" comes from the ancient West Norwegian name Herjárdalr, which literally means "Herje River Valley".
Initially, the province belonged to Norway, then as part of Norway, Denmark , which in 1645 ceded it to the world in Bromsebar in Sweden.
