Content
Origin
Masses of cold air accumulated on high plateaus or in overlying basins, overflow the edge of the ridge holding them back and rush with acceleration down to the shore, reaching the force of a hurricane.
Pages of History
On February 6, 1970, the Piterak caused significant damage to the town of Angmagssalik : in one night the wind demolished many residential and public buildings. The strength of the wind with the snow was such that the paint from the cars standing on the streets was “smeared” - the next morning they all became metallic in color. [one]
Since the beginning of 1970, the Danish Meteorological Center began to announce warnings of the approach of Piterac.
