Story
Poirot takes the Blue Train ( French: Le Train Bleu ) heading for the French Riviera . Catherine Gray takes the same train, who, for the first time after receiving the inheritance, spends winter vacations outside of England. On the train, she meets Ruth Kettering, a wealthy American heiress who escaped from her family to meet her lover. The next morning, Ruth is found dead in her compartment. Priceless rubies that may have belonged to Catherine the Great were kidnapped. In addition, a suspicious type was noticed near the killed compartment. All this makes Poirot begin the search for the killer.
The plot of the novel is based on the 1923 story “The Plymouth Express”, which was included in the collection of short stories “ Poirot's Early Cases ” ( English Poirot's Early Cases ), published in the UK only in 1974 , and in the USA in 1951 year , in The Under Dog and Other Stories .
In this novel, for the first time, a description of the fictional village of St. Mary Mead appears, which later becomes home to Miss Marple .
