Construction History

The construction was started on December 14, 2003 at the initiative of the Kharkov Directorate of the Southern Railway . The cost of construction work amounted to about 50 million UAH. About 700 people were involved in the construction, mainly specialists from railways (including from other railways of Ukraine ). The volume of construction work amounted to 123 thousand m³ [1] The opening of the Lokomotiv Sports Palace took place on August 23, 2004 , on the anniversary of the 350th anniversary of the city of Kharkov .

The Lokomotiv Sports Palace is designed to prepare and host games of the Lokomotiv Kharkiv volleyball team . The complex includes a hall for 5,000 seats, a hotel designed to receive two volleyball teams, restaurants and showers. The floor covering in the hall is arranged in such a way that it can be changed depending on the sport in which the competition takes place. One of the stands can be removed if many spectators are not expected. The palace is equipped with commentary booths, places for movie cameras, lighting is thought out, the scheme of which was developed by Kharkov companies. A well was drilled for water supply to the palace. The palace is connected to the nearby Lokomotiv pool by an underground passage.

Assignment of the name of G. N. Kirpa

In July 2006 , the Lokomotiv sports complex was named after the murdered former Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukraine and the Director General of Ukrainian Railways , Honorary Citizen of Kharkov , Hero of Ukraine Georgy Kirpa . The decision was made on July 25, 2006 at a meeting of the session of the Kharkov city council on the initiative of the measure of Kharkov Mikhail Dobkin [2]
