The lexicon was extremely popular in the late 1980s and the first half of the 1990s (according to some estimates, it was installed on 95% of all Russian PCs). By the turn of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centuries with the widespread use of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95, which replaced it, the use of the Lexicon was sharply reduced, subsequently ceasing completely. The latest version for MS-DOS is 1.4. Versions of the Lexicon for Windows are not widely used due to competition from pirated copies of Russified Microsoft Word .
Description
Lexicon is the first Russian-language editor with WYSIWYG - interface (starting from version 2.0, which was not brought [ specify ] ), aimed at a simple user, with a simple and understandable system of commands. There were versions that allowed the use of the languages of the peoples of Russia (for example, the Yakut language ).
This is the first Russian-language editor with a multi-window interface that allows you to transfer parts of text from one window to another when editing (the concept of a "pocket" or clipboard ).
The lexicon works with regular text files, but can also add different formatting codes to them (which always begin with the 0xFF character). The Lexicon has a built-in spell check system.
The lexicon works with text and graphic screen modes, with primary and alternative encodings . The interface can be switched from Russian to English and vice versa. You can simultaneously keep several files open (each in its own window) and switch between them; You can select and copy / move linear and rectangular blocks of text; You can also draw tables using pseudo-graphic characters.
The lexicon also works on non-Russified computers, as it has its own screen and printer fonts , as well as its own keyboard driver .
