The Salvation Cross of the Perished ( lit. Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžius , originally - Žūstančių gelbėjimo kryžius ) is a state award of the Republic of Lithuania .

It was established in 1930 to reward those who perished during the rescue of dying people.

Content

History

The cross was established in 1930 and was intended to reward those who perished in the salvation of dying people. Most often, they were awarded for the rescue of drowning people, as a special award already existed for courage in a fire in Lithuania . The well-known Lithuanian falerist Algimantas Astikas in his book mentions 46 rewarding with the cross of Salvation for those who perish between 1930 - 1940 . Crosses were made in France by the Parisian firm A. Bertrand. " [one]

After the annexation of the Republic of Lithuania and the incorporation of Lithuania into the USSR , all Lithuanian awards were canceled, but were restored to their original form after the collapse of the USSR and the restoration of independence of the Republic of Lithuania .

  1. The cross of salvation of the lost is awarded to persons who, despite the danger to their own lives, saved the dead.
  2. The same person can be awarded several times the cross of salvation for those who perish. Each new award is indicated by a golden star, which is attached to the ribbon. [2]
 

Description

 39 article. The structure of the cross of the salvation of the lost
  1. The cross is golden, covered with red enamel, 36 mm in size. On the front side of the cross, in the middle, is a white dove carrying a laurel branch; below it are the golden letters “ SOS ”. On the flip side, in the center, is a stylized horseman; around it, on a black ring - the inscription "To the Savior of the perishing" ( lit. "Žūvančiųjų gelbėtojui" ).
  2. The ribbon is moire, dark red in color, 32 mm wide, with two wide and two narrow white stripes at the edges. [2]
