Administrative division of Kosovo

The administrative-territorial division of the territory of the historical regions of Kosovo and Metohija , united into a single political-territorial unit, which is the subject of a dispute between the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo and Serbia , includes two levels: districts and communities. The systems of administrative-territorial division of the territory in the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia are different.

Counties

According to the administrative-territorial division of Serbia , the territory of the autonomous region of Kosovo and Metohija is divided into 5 districts, according to the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Kosovo, the territory of the Republic of Kosovo is divided into 7 districts.

With the coming to power of the Albanians and their declaration of independence from Serbia, partial changes also took place among the communities: eight relatively small communities were formed with a predominance of the Serbian population. These new communities, which do not comply with the Law on the Territorial Organization of the Republic of Serbia of December 27, 2007, are not recognized by the central authority of Serbia.
