Limin-Khersonissou [2] ( Greek Λιμήν Χερσονήσου [1] ) is a small town in Greece , in the north of the island of Crete , on the coast of the Cretan Sea 25 kilometers east of the island's capital - Heraklion (25 km from the Heraklion airport and 27 km from the port in Heraklion) and 40 kilometers northwest of Agios Nikolaos . The population of 2968 residents according to the 2011 census [1] . Included in the community (dim) of Chersonese in the peripheral unit of Heraklion in the periphery of Crete .

The city received its name from the Greek. λιμήν - port , harbor , and the ancient city of Chersonesos, located here.
History
The modern city of Limin-Heronisu was built on the spot where the ancient city of Chersonesos [3] ( Greek Χερσόνησος ) or Herrones [4] (newatt. Χερρόνησος [3] ) was located. Chersonesos was founded in the Minoan period . The name Chersonesus received from the Greek. χερσόνησος (newatt. χερρόνησος ) - peninsula . Strabo writes that the city was Likt's ship parking lot, a kilometer to the east was the shrine of Britomartis [4] . The city reached its peak in the Roman and Byzantine periods . An aqueduct from Likt was built in the city, there was a theater, a basilica. The Roman fountain has survived.

Tourism
Limin-Hersonisou is tourist oriented. A strip of bars runs along the coast near the port; bars with Irish and Dutch themes are especially common. In the evening, club life begins in the city, so the city is popular among young people. Among the popular clubs can be noted Palm Beach Club , which has a large territory in the open. You can also note Star Beach - an amusement park at the Star Beach Village hotel. Entrance to this park is free. On its territory there is a small water park, a disco, swimming pools and bars, as well as other entertainment.
Attractions
In Limin-Khersonis, there is an open-air museum "Lichnostatis" ( Λυχνοστάτης ), created by 1991 , with many exhibits related to the folk art, history, culture and nature of Crete [6] .
From Roman times, a fountain has been preserved in Limin-Hersonis. Initially, this fountain was part of a huge antique villa with hundreds of the same and larger fountains, located near the pier of the island. The fountain is divided by diagonal sides, on the sides of which there is an old mosaic in light blue tones. If you look closely, you can see an interesting story - the old little fisherman is surrounded by huge fish, sea birds and octopuses [7] .
