Distribution

They are found around the world, but only two tribes are represented in the Palearctic : Chelonini and Phanerotomini [1] .

Description

Most Cheloninae are small and monochromatic braconids. The shield of their metasome is characteristically formed from the first three tergites . Body length from 1.8 to 6.0 mm [1] .

Biology

Most species are parasitoids of the Lepidoptera moths , especially on fireflies ( Pyraloidea ) and leafworms ( Tortricoidea ).

Genetics

Haploid set of chromosomes n = 6 [2] .

Classification

One of the largest subfamilies of braconids. 20 genera and about 1300 species are known [1] .
