Game design (also game design , English. Game design ) - the process of creating the form and content of the game process (gameplay) of the developed game. Work with game design can occur both through the corresponding document ( English design document ), and exist only in the minds of game developers [1] .
Game design determines: a set of possible options from which the player can choose during the game; conditions for victory and defeat; how the player controls what is happening in the game; how it interacts with the game world; the complexity of the game, etc. [1] .

Design Types
There are many specializations of game designers, for example [2] :
- System Design - creating rules and related calculations for the game. This is the only task in the field of game design that is relevant for any game, because all games have rules.
- Content design - the creation of characters, objects, puzzles and missions. Although more common in video games, role-playing and collectible card games also involve a significant amount of content.
- Level design - creating levels of the game, including the landscape of the map and the location of objects on this map. Although the level design is widespread - masters in board role-playing games have been making dungeon maps since the 1970s - when they say “level designer”, they most often mean the level designer for a video game.
- Design of the world (in MMO and open worlds ) - thinking over spaces, locations, how they dictate the user experience and are linked to the general idea of the game.
Process Stages
Design Document
The main objective of game design is the development of a design document (in the jargon of the “dzdok” developers) . In this document, in plain language ( art style is a common mistake! [3] ) describes the rules and features of the game. Thus, even before the game engine is developed, the game designer develops a holistic vision of the game.
At the initial stages of the project development, on the basis of the design document, a decision is made on financing . During active development, all technical specifications are based on the vision of a game designer. The design document is not static: it is adjusted depending on the current state of affairs, the requirements of the producer and the proposals of other developers.
The game designer himself also takes part in testing .
