Description
Wingspan reaches 45 mm. The large glass poplar wings have transparent wings with brown bordering. The head is yellow, the chest is black-brown and two yellow spots are in front of the wings from the side of the head. The first and fourth segments are dark blue, almost black, the rear edges of the remaining segments are blue-black or brown. [3]
One can distinguish a female from a male by the shape of the end of the abdomen and the structure of the segments of the antennae, which in the male are clearly saw-shaped. The caterpillar is light, white-yellow with a dark, sometimes invisible stripe on the back. The last stage caterpillar reaches a length of 25 mm. [3]
Distribution and habitat
It is widely distributed throughout Europe, with the exception of the north itself, as well as in the territory of the former USSR, including the Crimea and the Caucasus, as well as in the forest zone and forest-steppe of Siberia, the Urals, Altai, in the mountains of Central Asia, Western Asia and North America. Power
Caterpillars of poplar glass are more often live and feed in the wood of black poplar ( Populus nigra ) and other types of poplars [4] . Less likely to damage willow, birch, linden, ash .
