The Jamaican Coalition or the Jamaica Coalition ( German: Jamaika-Koalition ) is the phraseological unit of the German political lexicon, meaning a coalition of three parties: the CDU / CSU , the Free Democratic Party and the Greens . The origin of the expression is associated with the national flag of Jamaica , the colors of which correspond to the party colors of the CDU / CSU (black), the Free Democratic Party (yellow) and "Green" (green).
The peculiarity of this combination of parties is that, ideologically, the Greens stand much closer to the center-left parties (the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the Left Party ) than to the center-right parties ( CDU / CSU and the Free Democratic Party). However, the desire to quickly come to power, complicated election calculations, taking into account the specifics of the distribution of political forces in a given situation, as well as personal sympathies and antipathies of party leaders sometimes lead to the fact that the Greens join the center-right parties, as it first happened in the federal state of Saarland , where on October 11, 2009 the leadership of the Green Party decided to join a coalition with the CDU / CSU and the Free Democratic Party [1] . This coalition broke up in January 2012 [2] .
Following the results of the parliamentary elections in Germany in September 2017, seven parties were held in the Bundestag at once, including the Christian Social Union , and not one of the “traditional” formats of majority coalitions in parliament will be able to receive. Due to the fact that the Social Democratic Party, at first, refused to enter the government, the only real format of the government coalition was to be the "Jamaican coalition" - for the first time at the federal level. However, during the coalition negotiations, the FDP nevertheless abandoned such an alliance because of great disagreements with future partners on many issues. As a result, the Social Democrats nevertheless went to a new " big coalition " with the CDU / CSU .
