Counterfeit² is Martin Gore’s second solo album (the first is Counterfeit ep 1989), the lead songwriter of Depeche Mode . The disc was released on April 28, 2003 in Europe and April 29, 2003 in the United States.

About the album
Counterfeit² contains 11 songs that influenced Martin as a composer. He recorded the album at about the same time that David Gahan recorded his first solo album, Paper Monsters , after the end of the Exciter Tour , and at about the same time that Andrew Fletcher founded the label and became the producer of Client . Counterfeit² is a very heavy synthetic album and includes a song sung in German ("Das Lied Vom Einsamen Mädchen"). The album could be heard on the website of Martin Gore.
Martin also went on a short tour consisting of six concerts in Europe, and two in Los Angeles.

Singles
Stardust
The single for the song "Stardust" was released two weeks before the release of Counterfeit ². It included B-Sides Strange Life (Mark Bolan and T. Rex) and the video Left Hand Luke And The Beggar Boys (T. Rex), as well as various remixes of Stardust and I Cast a Lonesome Shadow.
Loverman EP ²
After Counterfeit², the release of Loverman EP² was released, which included the mixes of Loverman and Das Lied Vom Einsamen Mädchen. There was also a DVD version with footage from a performance in Milan on April 30, 2003 and an interview with Martin. It was released in November in the UK, was not released in the United States.
