Creativity
In his youth, Leopoldo Lugones was fond of socialist and anarchist ideas, later became a poet of the young Argentinean bourgeoisie , who joined the latest achievements of European culture. In 1892, he took up journalism, worked for the La Montaña newspaper, and made friends with Manuel Quintana , a presidential candidate in Argentina.
Along with Nicaraguan Ruben Dario , Lugones is one of the most significant modernists in Latin American poetry. In his first collection of poems “Golden Mountains” ( Las montañas de oro , 1897 ), Lugones paid tribute to romantic hobbies in the spirit of Almafuerte , but at the same time showed himself to be a talented and independent student of Edgar Allan Poe , Charles Baudelaire , Leconte de Lille and the Brazilian symbolist Cruz- e-Soups . Already in this collection the most characteristic features of the poetic appearance of Lugones were defined: virtuosity of rhythms, sophistication and aesthetics of images, addiction to mystical concepts.
Subsequent collections of poems created Lugones extraordinary popularity throughout Latin America. In the collection "Odes to the Century" ( Odas seculares , 1910 ) Lugones heroes the history of the Argentine bourgeoisie.
